Every stitch at Bagore Atelier carries a 2007 memory.
Our story
Hi, My name is Marie Clara, the founder and creative director of Bagore Atelier, in Cape Elisabeth, Maine. Growing up in Rwanda, my grandmother Deborah, my mother Specioza, and her four sisters transformed every family holiday into a runway. They spent hours sewing and embroidering linen dresses, and hand-looping crochet sweaters and bags for us and our neighbors. My mother’s dedication ran so deep that as a teenager, she walked miles on foot just to attend design school. She eventually paused her creative dreams to raise six children, but her passion never died. I will never forget the day in 2007 when my father bought her a singer sewing machine. She wept like a child, finally holding the tool that would allow her to create again.
A mother’s Dream!
Today, that passion is fully alive. My mother is still tailoring pure linens, and my aunts are masterfully crocheting these beautiful, textured bags. Bagore Atelier is the modern manifestation of her lifelong dream, her sisters’ artistry, and my own journey as a mother of two here in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
Who We Are
Bagore Atelier is a family collective of women artisans crafting heirloom linen dresses and hand-crocheted bags, based in Cape Elisabeth Maine, made in Rwanda. We hand-make timeless styles made for a slower pace in small batches. We believe in the power of deliberate creativity—taking time for the finest details, and helping everyone discover their own unique beauty through our art.
Thank you for being part of our story.
With Love, Marie Clara.
